RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s role in global peacekeeping faced another setback on Friday, April 3, 2026, when three of its personnel serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) were injured in an explosion at a UN facility near El Adeisse, southern Lebanon.

Two of the soldiers sustained serious wounds and were immediately evacuated to the hospital for treatment.

“This afternoon, an explosion at a UN facility near El Adeisse injured three peacekeepers, two of them seriously,” UNIFIL spokesperson Kandice Ardiel said in a statement released by the UN Information Center in Indonesia, as quoted by Antara.

She added that the origin of the blast remains unknown and described the week as “a difficult time for peacekeepers in the UNIFIL area of operations".

The incident comes just days after Indonesia mourned the loss of three peacekeepers in Lebanon. On March 29, Lance Corporal (Praka) Farizal Rhomadhon was killed by artillery fire near Adchit Al Qusayr.

The following day, Captain (Inf) Zulmi Aditya Iskandar and Sergeant Muhammad Nur Ichwan died in an attack on a convoy they were escorting. Responsibility for the attacks has yet to be determined, though the UN confirmed Thursday, April 2, that investigations are underway.

UNIFIL has urged all parties to ensure the safety of peacekeepers and avoid combat activities around its operational zones. Ardiel expressed hope for the swift recovery of the injured personnel.

The latest casualties underscore the growing risks faced by Indonesian forces deployed under UN mandates. Indonesia, one of the largest contributors to UN peacekeeping missions, has repeatedly emphasized its commitment to global security despite the dangers.
