RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta — The Government of Indonesia has ensured that the repatriation process of the remains of three Indonesian peacekeepers who were killed while serving in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) mission will be carried out safely and smoothly.
“On April 2, 2026, a send-off and military honors ceremony for the remains was held at Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut,” the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
The ceremony, led directly by the UNIFIL Force Commander, was conducted as a final tribute to the service and dedication of the soldiers in maintaining world peace. Amid the mourning, the Indonesian government continues to closely coordinate with the United Nations (UN) to ensure that the repatriation process proceeds swiftly and securely.
“The repatriation of the remains is expected to take place in the first week of April 2026,” the Ministry said.
However, the repatriation process faces several challenges due to the ongoing conflict situation. Under normal conditions, travel from Beirut to Jakarta takes at least 17 hours.
Currently, the increasing intensity of armed clashes in several areas, including due to escalating Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon, has limited movement and heightened safety risks at every stage of the repatriation process. The government also reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that the repatriation is carried out as well as possible as a final tribute to the fallen soldiers, as well as a form of responsibility to their bereaved families.
The three fallen personnel are Captain Zulmi Aditya Iskandar, First Sergeant Muhammad Nur, and Chief Private Farizal Rhomadhon. Their service is regarded as part of Indonesia’s commitment to maintaining world peace, as mandated by the Preamble of the 1945 Constitution.
“An outpouring of condolences and support from various countries has been extended to Indonesia, as a mark of respect for the dedication of the soldiers who have upheld the nation’s dignity on the international stage,” the Ministry said.
