RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia and South Korea have formalized a five-year strategic partnership to improve public services, strengthen data security, and develop artificial intelligence (AI) talent.

The agreement was signed in Seoul on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, between the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital and South Korean Ministry of Science and ICT. Indonesian Communication and Digital Minister Meutya Hafid said the collaboration is designed to enhance the quality of digital networks.

“Through this cooperation, the government targets improvements in digital connectivity. People will experience more stable internet connections for schools, healthcare, and businesses,” she said, as quoted by Antara.

The partnership also covers stronger oversight of the digital space and enhanced data protection to shield citizens from breaches and misuse. Programs to boost digital literacy will be introduced, helping communities use technology safely and productively.

“We want people to feel the results directly. Internet must be more stable for learning and working. Personal data must be safer. Public services must be easier to access,” Minister Meutya added.

AI development will be directed toward strategic sectors such as education, healthcare, and agriculture. “Technology should help teachers teach, assist healthcare workers to work faster, and support farmers in making decisions,” she said.

To achieve this, Indonesia will roll out training programs, scholarships, and expert exchanges to expand its pool of digital talent. “Digital talent is key. We want more young Indonesians to be involved in developing technology,” Minister Meutya emphasized.

The agreement also includes cooperation on AI infrastructure, such as high-performance computing systems to support research and innovation. Beyond public services, the partnership is expected to open opportunities for digital businesses and startups in both countries.

Planned to last five years, the collaboration will be implemented across education, healthcare, and the digital economy. To ensure smooth execution, Indonesia and South Korea will establish a joint committee to monitor and oversee the programs.

This initiative reflects both nations’ commitment to building inclusive, resilient, and future-ready digital societies, with AI positioned as a driver of innovation and public service transformation. ***
