Sugiono Expresses Condolences for Death of Indonesian UNIFIL Peacekeeper

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesian Foreign Minister, Sugiono, expressed deep condolences over the death of an Indonesian peacekeeper while serving in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), and affirmed that the repatriation of the body will be carried out promptly.
“We extend our deepest condolences for the loss of one of our soldiers, Corporal Farizal Rhomadhon, who was serving with the UNIFIL contingent in Lebanon. He has fallen in the line of duty,” Foreign Minister Sugiono stated in a press statement on the sidelines of his visit to Tokyo, Monday, March 30, 2026.
The minister stated that he has instructed the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Beirut to prepare the handling of the remains and to monitor the condition of other Indonesian personnel serving in the Garuda Contingent under UNIFIL.
He also noted that Indonesia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York will soon meet with the UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations. In the meeting, the Indonesian side will discuss the handling of the remains of the death of TNI personnel and convey its call for UNIFIL to conduct an investigation into the incident.
He emphasized that Indonesia is calling for a full investigation to determine the source of the attack that caused the casualties. “We request a full investigation by UNIFIL to identify the source of this incident,” Sugiono conveyed.
The Foreign Minister also strongly condemned Israel’s attacks in southern Lebanon and urged all parties to immediately de-escalate to prevent further loss of life.
In addition to Chief Private Farizal Rhomadhon, three other Indonesian soldiers, Chief Private Rico Pramudia, Chief Private Bayu Prakoso, and Chief Private Arif—were reported injured in the incident. The Indonesian government, he added, will continue to coordinate closely with the United Nations and relevant authorities to ensure proper handling of the victims and closely monitor developments on the ground.
