House Urges Investigation into UNIFIL Attack, Protection for RI Soldiers Abroad

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The death of an Indonesian Army (TNI) soldier serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) following an Israeli attack in southern Lebanon on Sunday, March 29, 2026, has sparked national concern. The incident highlights the high risks faced by peacekeeping forces in conflict zones.

“We express our deepest condolences. May the fallen soldier rest in peace and the family be blessed with fortitude,” said Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Commission I, Sukamta, in Jakarta on Monday, March 30, 2026.

Sukamta noted that the TNI’s participation in UN peacekeeping missions represents Indonesia’s tangible commitment on the global stage, contributing to the maintenance of international stability and order.

He stressed that the incident serves as a reminder that peacekeeping missions carry inherent risks, and attacks on peacekeeping forces are considered serious violations of international law.

The House emphasized the need for decisive measures to respond appropriately to the incident. The government has been urged to ensure maximum protection for soldiers serving abroad.

Lawmakers also called for an international investigation to be conducted transparently and accountably to establish clarity and responsibility regarding the attack.

Sukamta underlined that Indonesia must continue to uphold the principles of global peace while safeguarding the nation’s honor and dignity in every situation. He added that firmness must be accompanied by wisdom in decision-making, which is essential in navigating complex geopolitical dynamics.
