RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, Pakistan is positioning itself as a potential mediator, stressing that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable solutions to the conflict between Iran and the US-Israel alliance.

Speaking in Jakarta on Thursday, March 26, 2026, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Indonesia Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri emphasized his country’s readiness to host negotiations between conflicting parties.

“We believe the current crisis can only be resolved through negotiations and diplomatic efforts,” he said, as quoted by Antara, noting that Islamabad would welcome mediation talks.

Ambassador Chaudhri acknowledged Iran’s mistrust of the US following attacks during previous negotiation attempts but insisted that diplomacy must prevail. “Pakistan continues to work with friendly nations in the region and remains confident that a negotiated solution is possible,” he noted.

His remarks followed a statement by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, declaring the country's “readiness” to host meaningful and conclusive talks between Washington and Tehran.

“Pakistan welcomes and fully supports dialogue efforts to end the war in the Middle East for peace and stability in the region and beyond,” PM Sharif wrote on his X account.

Reports also indicated that Pakistani Army Chief General Asim Munir had spoken directly with US President Donald Trump on Sunday, March 23, regarding the conflict. Shortly after Sharif’s post, Trump shared a screenshot of the statement on his Truth Social platform, amplifying Islamabad’s diplomatic offer.

The overture comes amid intensifying violence. Since February 28, 2026, US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran have reportedly killed more than a thousand people, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Tehran has retaliated with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, as well as US military assets in Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states. The escalation has disrupted infrastructure, global markets, and international aviation.

By offering itself as a neutral venue for high-level talks, Pakistan is seeking to play a stabilizing role in the Middle East, reaffirming its belief that only diplomacy can halt a conflict that threatens both regional and global security. ***
