RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Embassy in Paris, France, marked Eid al-Fitr 1447 H with a modest celebration, emphasizing the importance of carrying Ramadan’s values into daily life, particularly harmony and compassion within society.
Ambassador Mohamad Oemar expressed hope that the lessons of Ramadan would continue to guide the community beyond the holy month.
“This year’s Eid prayer was held simply, reflecting both global geopolitical dynamics and a spirit of solidarity,” the ambassador said in a statement on Sunday, March 22, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
The prayer, hosted at the Indonesian Ambassador's residence (Wisma Duta RI), in Paris on Friday, March 20, drew around 400 Indonesians and members of the diaspora in France.
In his sermon, preacher Rizky Hegia Sampurna reminded worshippers that Eid is a moment to embrace simplicity, cleanse the heart, and strengthen empathy. He also stressed the importance of maintaining balance in diverse societies and building relationships across backgrounds as an expression of gratitude.
For Indonesian students abroad, the occasion carried personal meaning. Fathia, studying at Le Cordon Bleu, and Lala, at La Sorbonne, described Eid as an opportunity for self-reflection and renewal.
They noted that celebrating in a foreign land fosters stronger bonds of brotherhood and a spirit of mutual support within the community.
As part of its solidarity efforts, the embassy partnered with the Indonesian Muslim Association in France (PERMIIP) and Dompet Dhuafa to facilitate the collection of zakat fitrah (obligatory alms for Eid al-Fitr), zakat maal (wealth zakat), donations, and alms from Indonesians in France. ***
