RRI.CO.ID, Beijing - Indonesia is aggressively expanding its technological frontier by exploring a strategic partnership in Agricultural Artificial Intelligence (AI) with the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China. This initiative marks a significant shift toward "smart farming" as Jakarta seeks to modernize its primary sectors through international collaboration.

The pursuit of this high-tech alliance was confirmed by the Indonesian Ambassador to China, Djauhari Oratmangun, during a high-level meeting with Chen Gang, the Secretary of the CPC Guangxi Committee, at the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing on March 13, 2026. The discussions underscored a mutual desire to leverage Guangxi’s rapidly growing AI ecosystem for the benefit of Indonesian development.

Ambassador Djauhari highlighted that while agriculture is a primary focus, the scope of the potential cooperation extends far beyond the fields. He noted that Guangxi’s technological prowess offers a template for digital transformation across several Indonesian public sectors.

“Guangxi has great potential in the field of AI which is not only beneficial in the development of smart agriculture, but also in the fields of health, culture, and tourism. Therefore, going forward, I want to continue to encourage the strengthening of partnerships in these fields with Guangxi,” Djauhari said, as quoted by Antara.

This digital push follows earlier groundwork laid last month, where Indonesia and Guangxi explored AI applications for the broadcasting sector through a proposed collaboration between the Indonesian Public Broadcasting Institution (TVRI) and the Guangxi Regional Government Information Office.

The momentum is further supported by the establishment of the AI Application Center in Nanning, a dedicated hub resulting from the collaboration between Guangxi and ASEAN.

The diplomatic move comes amid a period of robust economic integration. Trade between Indonesia and Guangxi surged by 40 percent last year, reaching a total value of 4.73 billion USD.

This commercial growth has been accompanied by a wave of direct investment from Guangxi-based firms into Indonesia, particularly in high-impact sectors such as green transportation, construction machinery, and heavy equipment manufacturing.

The partnership is also anchored by strong "people-to-people" ties, specifically through vocational education. Following an agreement signed in 2024, various Indonesian universities and polytechnics have partnered with Guangxi companies operating in Indonesia.

These programs are designed to enhance the technical capacity of the Indonesian workforce, ensuring they are equipped to support the specific needs of modern industry.
