Indonesia Urges Restraint Amid Rising Tensions in Lebanon

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia has voiced strong concern over the escalating violence in southern Lebanon, placing particular emphasis on the safety of civilians and United Nations peacekeepers.
In a statement released on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs official website, the Indonesian government condemned Israel’s recent strikes in southern Lebanon, describing them as a grave breach of international humanitarian law and a violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 (2006).
Jakarta urged all parties to respect Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, halt attacks that endanger civilians and infrastructure, and return to dialogue and diplomacy to prevent further escalation.
The government also expressed deep alarm at rising tensions in Beirut and along the Blue Line, where clashes have affected the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) positions and injured several peacekeepers. Indonesia underscored that all actors bear responsibility under international law to ensure the safety of UN personnel and property.
Jakarta is closely monitoring developments, particularly their impact on the Garuda Contingent serving with UNIFIL. Safeguarding the security of Indonesian peacekeepers remains a top priority.
At the same time, Indonesia conveyed appreciation for the professionalism and dedication of its troops, who continue to carry out their mandate to help stabilize southern Lebanon. The government voiced hope that the Garuda Contingent will remain safe as they fulfill their mission of maintaining peace. ***
