RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Economic and technology cooperation took center stage as Indonesia and China reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, following a meeting between Indonesian Ambassador to China and Mongolia, Djauhari Oratmangun, and Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Sun Weidong in Beijing.

The meeting, held on Thursday, March 12, 2026, discussed ways to deepen collaboration, particularly in trade, investment, and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.

“We explored how to further enhance bilateral relations, especially in the economic sector. Another key topic was cooperation in technology, including artificial intelligence,” Djauhari said in Beijing on Friday, March 13, as quoted by Antara.

The meeting, also attended by Indonesian Deputy Ambassador Irene, included Djauhari’s congratulations on the successful conclusion of China’s annual “Two Sessions” parliamentary meetings earlier this month. He commended China’s new achievements in economic and social development and expressed confidence in its progress under the 15th Five-Year Plan.

Djauhari highlighted the rapid growth of Indonesia-China relations, marked by close high-level communication, steadily expanding trade and investment, and deeper people-to-people exchanges. “Indonesia firmly upholds the One-China principle and is committed to strengthening friendship, mutual trust, and cooperation across various fields, while elevating bilateral relations to new heights,” he said.

Indonesia also voiced support for China’s role as host of APEC 2026 and expressed readiness to intensify multilateral cooperation to contribute to regional and global peace and development.

Sun Weidong underscored that 2026 marks the start of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan, emphasizing high-quality development and greater openness to the world. He noted that these efforts would create new opportunities for countries including Indonesia.

Reflecting on the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations celebrated last year, Sun pointed to the meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto as a milestone that kept bilateral ties at a high level.

He added that China is prepared to align its development strategies with Indonesia, strengthen coordination on international and regional issues, and build a “community with a shared future” between the two nations.

“The goal is to make bilateral relations deeper and more tangible, contributing more significantly to peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and beyond,” Sun said. ***
