RRI.CO.ID, Cairo - The Indonesian National Zakat Agency (BAZNAS) has donated five ambulances to Egypt’s Ambulance Authority. The handover was carried out by Indonesia’s Ambassador to Egypt, Kuncoro Giri Waseso, who presented the vehicles to Amr Rashid, Head of the Egyptian Ambulance Authority, which operates under the Ministry of Health and Population.
The donation reflects Indonesia’s solidarity and compassion amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. “These ambulances are intended to support medical services for Palestinians in Egypt affected by the conflict in Gaza," Ambassador Waseso said in a statement published by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday, March 12, 2026.
"We hope this contribution will strengthen emergency healthcare capacity, particularly for patient evacuation and referrals requiring advanced treatment,” he added.
The ambassador emphasized that the aid represents the trust and generosity of the Indonesian people, collected through BAZNAS, and stands as a tangible commitment to humanitarian principles that transcend national borders. “Indonesia consistently supports humanitarian efforts and the protection of civilians impacted by conflict, including our brothers and sisters from Palestine,” he explained.
Egypt’s Ambulance Authority expressed appreciation for Indonesia’s support and close cooperation, noting that such collaboration further strengthens the bonds of friendship between the two nations. The ambulances are expected to provide direct benefits to those in need, especially Palestinians displaced by the conflict.
Since the outbreak of the Gaza humanitarian crisis, Indonesia has continued to send aid to Palestine, primarily through Egypt. According to data from the Indonesian Embassy in Cairo, humanitarian assistance delivered between October 7, 2023, and February 2026 has reached nearly USD 22 million, amounting to approximately 2,380 tons of supplies. The contributions come from the Indonesian government and 33 humanitarian organizations, including BAZNAS. (Diffa Sephiawardhani/Sri Wahyuni)
