RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has facilitated the phased evacuation of 32 Indonesian citizens (WNI) from Iran following the escalating conflict in the Middle East. The 32 Indonesians included in the first wave of evacuation consist of 10 Indonesian workers, one teacher/journalist, 14 students, two Indonesian migrant workers (PMI), and five tourists.

The return of the Indonesians is divided into two batches. The first batch of 22 Indonesians arrived safely at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. local time after traveling from Baku, Azerbaijan.

Meanwhile, the second batch of 10 Indonesians from Iran is expected to arrive at Soekarno-Hatta Airport on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. Upon arrival in Indonesia, the evacuees were welcomed directly by Foreign Minister Sugiono.

“We welcome you back to Indonesia and wish you a happy reunion with your families,” Sugiono said while receiving the returning Indonesians from Iran.

The Minister also added that amid the developments of the situation in Iran and the broader region, the Indonesian government’s priority is to ensure the safety of Indonesian citizens in the area.

“Since the conflict began, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with Indonesian representatives in the Middle East have been closely coordinating to monitor the situation, collect data on Indonesian citizens, and discuss contingency measures,” Sugiono said.

The Indonesians will then be assisted by local governments to continue their journeys to their respective hometowns.

The evacuation is part of the Indonesian government’s ongoing efforts, particularly by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Indonesian missions abroad, namely the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran and the Indonesian Embassy in Baku to ensure the safety and protection of Indonesian citizens overseas, especially in areas affected by conflict.

According to records from the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran, there are currently 329 Indonesian citizens in Iran, the majority of whom are students mainly concentrated in the city of Qom. The rest consist of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) and expatriates.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran, continues to maintain intensive communication to ensure the condition and whereabouts of Indonesian citizens and to assess the types of assistance that can be provided.
