Indonesian Embassy Brings Consular Services Closer to Citizens in Changsha

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Indonesian Embassy in Beijing, China, extended its outreach by providing direct consular services to citizens in Changsha, while also hosting a communal iftar gathering during Ramadan. The initiative spared Indonesians in Hunan from traveling nearly 1,500 kilometers to Beijing for essential services.
The consular team offered biometric recording for new passports and shared updates on immigration and consular matters with Indonesian students and diaspora. Around 200 Indonesians attended the event, 90 percent of whom were students enrolled at universities in Changsha.
Ambassador Djauhari Oratmangun emphasized the importance of the embassy’s presence beyond Beijing. “I want the embassy not only to wait in Beijing. I want us to be present, to greet, and to listen to stories,” he said in his remarks, as quoted by Antara.
He also reminded Indonesians abroad to register with the embassy, noting that the process is now simple through the Peduli WNI online portal.
The gathering also introduced Deputy Ambassador in Beijing, Irene, to the community. “Diplomacy is not only about relations between states and governments, but also about maintaining communication with Indonesians living abroad,” Irene said, stressing the role of the diaspora as bridges of friendship between nations.
Ambassador Djauhari echoed this sentiment, highlighting how Indonesian professionals, entrepreneurs, and students in China contribute to the country’s image through their achievements and interactions. The evening concluded with a communal iftar and the singing of “Rayuan Pulau Kelapa”, reinforcing a sense of unity among Indonesians overseas.
Indonesia is currently Hunan’s second-largest trading partner in Southeast Asia, with bilateral trade reaching USD 3.23 billion in 2025. Growth has been driven by Hunan’s exports of “three new” products -- electric vehicles, lithium-ion batteries, and photovoltaic panels -- which surged by 724 percent in the first eleven months of 2025. ***
