RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Iranian Embassy in Jakarta underscored Tehran’s commitment to fostering friendly relations with Middle Eastern countries, stressing principles of mutual respect, good neighborliness, and recognition of sovereignty and territorial integrity.
In a press statement, the embassy emphasized that Iran’s recent defensive operations targeting U.S. military bases and installations in the region should not be interpreted as hostility toward neighboring states. Instead, Tehran argued that the presence of American bases has failed to enhance regional security and has been used to support what it described as “Zionist aggression” and U.S. military actions.
According to the embassy, Iran’s defensive measures were directed at facilities identified as sources of aggression against the Iranian people or those supporting such actions.
The statement also highlighted Iran’s deep mistrust of Washington, citing repeated “betrayals” in diplomatic negotiations. Tehran pointed to three incidents: the U.S. withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in 2018 under President Trump, a military strike in June 2025 during ongoing talks, and another attack on February 28, 2026, following the second round of negotiations.
Despite these tensions, Iran reiterated its commitment to lasting peace in the region. However, the embassy stressed that in defending its sovereignty and national dignity, Iran would not hesitate to respond firmly. The statement concluded with renewed condemnation of what it described as U.S. and Israeli aggression against Iran’s territorial integrity. ***
