RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Singapore Embassy in Jakarta hosted an iftar gathering with 70 orphans at Istiqlal Mosque on Sunday, March 8, 2026, to mark the holy month of Ramadan.

In a press statement, the embassy said the event was the third year of the initiative. This year’s theme, “Harmony of Ramadan: Sharing Compassion,” reflects the friendship between Singapore and Indonesia and the spirit of harmony, care, and generosity during Ramadan.

The embassy noted that theIstiqlal Mosque was chosen as the venue because it has long been regarded as a symbol of religious tolerance and moderation in Indonesia.

The event was attended by Singapore’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Kwok Fook Seng, and Gugun Gumilar, a special staff member representing Indonesia’s Minister of Religious Affairs, Nasaruddin Umar.

In his remarks, Ambassador Kwok said Singapore and Indonesia share more similarities than differences. He emphasized that although the two countries are separated by sea, they are united by a core value: respect for diversity.

“In Singapore, diversity is celebrated as a national strength. Similarly, in Indonesia, the motto Bhinneka Tunggal Ika shows the world that thousands of islands and hundreds of cultures can live together in harmony,” he said, as quoted by Antara.

The embassy also distributed Ramadan aid packages before participants broke their fast together.

Earlier, on March 4, the embassy collaborated with Voice of Istiqlal (VOI) and The Institute of Democracy and Education (IDE) to organize an interfaith dialogue and iftar gathering for 80 youths from diverse backgrounds. The activity aimed to promote understanding, tolerance, and harmony among young people. ***
