RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Indonesian government has suspended any discussions related to the Peace Council, or Board of Peace (BoP), following the war situation involving Iran triggered by Israeli attacks and supported by the United States.
“All discussions with the BoP are currently suspended or, in other words, ‘on hold,” Indonesian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Yvonne Mewengkang, spoke to the media in Jakarta on Friday, 6 March 2026.
The move follows growing public criticism calling for Indonesia to withdraw from the BoP. The attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran have also reinforced these demands.
She explained that the decision to place BoP discussions on hold was taken because the government’s main focus at the moment is monitoring the dynamics of the conflict involving Iran and the broader regional situation, while also ensuring the safety of Indonesian citizens in the area.
She added that the government has prepared various anticipatory measures to deal with potential escalation of the conflict, in order to ensure the safety of Indonesian citizens currently in the Middle East. According to Yvonne, Indonesia’s participation in the BoP will be based on national interests, the principles of its independent and active foreign policy, and developments on the ground.
“Our participation in the BoP remains consistent in supporting stabilization and reconstruction efforts in Palestine. Therefore, any decision regarding Indonesia’s participation will be made through a comprehensive consideration of all these factors,” Yvonne said.
Previously, President Prabowo Subianto was said to appreciate various inputs and criticisms regarding proposals for Indonesia to suspend or even end its membership in the Peace Council. However, Yvonne said the government’s current position is to regard the body as part of Indonesia’s diplomatic efforts to promote peace in Palestine.
