RRI.CO.ID, Nusantara - Austria has expressed interest in contributing to the development of Indonesia’s new capital, Nusantara Capital City (IKN), with potential collaborations spanning infrastructure, healthcare, education, and sustainable economic growth.
During a visit to IKN on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, representatives from the Austrian Embassy met with the Nusantara Capital Authority to discuss opportunities for cooperation. The delegation was led by Chargé d’Affaires ad interim Michael Wislocki and Commercial Counselor Sigmund Nemeti.
Head of the Nusantara Capital Authority, Basuki Hadimuljono, welcomed the initiative, noting that the city’s ongoing construction offers wide-ranging opportunities for both domestic and international partners.
“Nusantara is not only a new seat of government but also a future-oriented city ecosystem. We are open to international collaboration that enriches its development,” Basuki said in IKN on Thursday, March 5, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Wislocki explained that Austria’s interest lies in supporting the creation of a modern, sustainable “forest city”. He highlighted Austria’s strengths in technology and innovation, offering potential cooperation in smart city development, urban transport, healthcare services, and education systems aimed at strengthening human resource capacity.
“We are closely following the progress of IKN's development. As representatives of Austria, we are keen to contribute to building a modern and sustainable forest city in Indonesia,” Wislocki said.
The discussions underscored Austria’s readiness to share expertise in sustainable urban planning and technological innovation, while Indonesia emphasized its openness to partnerships that align with Nusantara’s vision as a globally competitive, inclusive, and environmentally conscious capital.
Both sides expressed hope that the visit would strengthen communication and pave the way for deeper cooperation, positioning Nusantara as a model of sustainable development and international collaboration. ***
