RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Despite escalating conflict in the Middle East following U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran, the Indonesian government has assured that the situation for Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) in the region remains stable and under control.

Minister of Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection (P2MI), Mukhtarudin, emphasized that there has been no directive for evacuation from either host governments or Indonesian embassies in affected countries.

“Everything is still under control,” he said after signing a cooperation agreement with partner institutions in Jakarta on Thursday, March 5, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

He noted that no significant impacts have been reported so far. While some workers in Kuwait have experienced psychological distress due to trauma, there have been no cases requiring physical evacuation. The government, he added, continues to provide counseling and support for those affected.

To strengthen monitoring, P2MI Ministry has established a crisis center and hotline for migrant workers to report emergencies. Indonesian embassies and consulates are also actively disseminating updates through media channels and direct communication.

“The government, together with our representatives abroad, is fully committed to monitoring developments day by day, hour by hour,” Minister Mukhtarudin stressed.

Collaboration with placement companies is also being reinforced to ensure the safety of workers in formal sectors. In addition, security advisories have been issued to help migrant workers continue their activities safely.

Regarding the number of Indonesian workers in Iran, Minister Mukhtarudin clarified that the figure is relatively small -- around 100 individuals, mostly domestic workers who arranged their own placements. “Iran is not an official destination country for placement,” he explained.

The reassurance comes after a dramatic escalation last Saturday, when U.S. and Israeli forces launched strikes on multiple targets in Iran, including Tehran. Iranian state television reported casualties and confirmed the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

In response, Iran fired missiles at Israeli territory and U.S. military facilities across the region, including in Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. ***
