RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, expressed appreciation for the Indonesian Government’s goodwill in seeking to mediate between Iran and the United States, although no concrete steps have been taken so far regarding the initiative.
“As of now, there have been no steps related to that matter, and we still do not know whether such a move would have any impact or influence,” Boroujerdi said when responding to a question about possible communication regarding the mediation during a press conference in Jakarta on Monday, 3 March 2026.
According to him, the governments of both countries may engage in communication and interaction with Iran to obtain updates on the current situation. However, he could not confirm whether mediation efforts would yield results.
“If Iran and Indonesia wish to engage in further interaction and communication to learn about the latest developments and situation in Iran, that may be possible. But whether mediation can achieve results or not, I cannot comment,” he said.
Earlier, Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated its readiness to facilitate dialogue in order to restore security and conducive conditions. The statement noted that, if agreed upon by both parties, the President of Indonesia would be willing to travel to Tehran to conduct mediation.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, 28 February 2026, Israel launched an attack on Iran, described as the second strike following the first military action in June 2025. The Iranian Red Crescent Society on Monday (2 March 2026) reported that the death toll from U.S. and Israeli airstrikes since 28 February had risen to 555.
