RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Navy has stepped up its operational readiness with an integrated combat exercise in the Singapore Strait, underscoring its ongoing commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty and maritime security in one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes.

The drill was carried out by Fleet Command I’s Sea Combat Task Force (Guspurla Koarmada I), involving key operational elements under command (BKO), including the warship KRI Surik-645 and maritime patrol aircraft P-8203. The exercise aimed to enhance synergy between naval and air operations in the strategically vital border waters.

“The training focused on improving combat preparedness and the professionalism of personnel in responding to the dynamic maritime security challenges along the international shipping route of the Singapore Strait,” Guspurla Koarmada I Commander, First Admiral TNI Nurlan, said in Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands, on Monday evening, March 2, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

He emphasized that collaboration between warships and patrol aircraft is crucial to strengthening surveillance effectiveness and ensuring rapid response to potential threats at sea.

The exercise series began systematically on Sunday, March 1, with a communication check (commcheck) to ensure smooth coordination among units, followed by an air joining procedure (AJP) to practice integrating aircraft into the task force convoy through proper communication and identification protocols.

An air defense drill, coded 320, was also conducted, focusing on aircraft tracking as part of a layered defense scenario. All activities proceeded safely and according to plan.

Solid coordination between naval and air elements reflected the operational readiness of Guspurla Koarmada I’s BKO units in executing integrated operations.

“Evaluations were carried out at each stage to measure effectiveness and identify areas for improvement,” Admiral Nurlan noted, stressing the importance of consistent training in operational areas while prioritizing personnel and material safety.

This emphasis aligns with directives from Fleet Command I leadership, which call for all units to conduct exercises during patrols in the same sector and to carry out evaluations afterward, ensuring optimal combat readiness is maintained. ***
