Malaysia and Indonesia Reaffirm Commitment to Stronger Ties

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Malaysia and Indonesia have signaled a renewed commitment to deepening cooperation, as Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim received Indonesia’s newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Malaysia, Dato’ Mohammad Iman Hascarya, in Kuala Lumpur on Monday, March 2, 2026.

The meeting highlighted shared priorities in trade, investment, and regional collaboration, underscoring the long-standing strategic partnership between the two neighbors. “We agreed to enhance cooperation in trade and investment so that it aligns with the closeness of our brotherhood and the strategic relationship between the two countries,” PM Anwar said in a statement issued in Kuala Lumpur, on Monday, as quoted by Antara.

Anwar congratulated Ambassador Iman Hascarya on the start of his mission to further strengthen Indonesia–Malaysia relations, expressing optimism that cooperation could be translated into more frequent exchanges and stronger communication between the two nations’ top leadership. “This will ensure that our shared agenda can be implemented more effectively,” he added.

The Prime Minister also conveyed his intention to attend the upcoming D-8 Summit in Jakarta in April 2026, emphasizing that the visit would reflect Malaysia’s ongoing commitment to reinforcing regional and international cooperation.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Iman noted that the meeting also touched on current geopolitical developments that could affect regional dynamics and stability. He relayed Anwar’s remarks about maintaining regular communication with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, particularly on efforts to boost cross-border trade. ***
