RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian embassies in Iran and the United Arab Emirates are on high alert as escalating military tensions in the Middle East affect Indonesian nationals in both countries.

Indonesian Ambassador to Iran, Rolliansyah Soemirat, confirmed that all 329 registered Indonesian citizens in Iran are safe. Six of them are currently staying at the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran after losing access to their accommodation.

“We are accommodating several Indonesians at the embassy for security reasons, primarily because their schools or workplaces have vacated the dormitories. This does not necessarily indicate a direct threat,” he said on Monday, March 2, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

The embassy noted that the actual number of Indonesians in Iran could be higher, as some have not reported their presence. Despite the dynamic situation in Tehran, all Indonesians are reported to be in good condition. The embassy has urged them to limit outdoor activities and avoid mass gatherings, while remaining in close communication.

Meanwhile, in the UAE, Indonesian Ambassador Judha Nugraha confirmed that 23 Indonesians stranded at Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi have been safely evacuated and accommodated in hotels. Most were transit passengers, including several who had just completed umrah, and were affected by flight cancellations following airspace closures in parts of the region.

“All Indonesian citizens are safe and have received assistance from the Indonesian Embassy in Abu Dhabi,” Judha said.

The disruption follows escalating conflict since late February 2026, after U.S. and Israeli airstrikes on targets in Iran triggered retaliatory drone and missile attacks that expanded to Gulf countries, including the UAE.

The Indonesian government continues to urge its citizens in the region to remain vigilant, follow official guidance, and stay in contact with Indonesian diplomatic missions. ***
