RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia and Japan reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their strategic economic partnership during the Second Indonesia–Japan Cooperation Dialogue (IJCD), held in Jakarta on Friday, February 27, 2026.

According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry official website, the meeting was co-chaired by Indonesian Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Arrmanatha C. Nasir and Japanese Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Akahori Takeshi.

The IJCD serves as a follow-up to the “2+2” Foreign and Defense Ministers’ meeting in November 2025. “The second IJCD serves as momentum to ensure resilient and adaptive economic growth while strengthening regional supply chain stability,” Arrmanatha said, as quoted on his official Instagram account.

Both sides emphasized their commitment to enhancing synergy in priority sectors, including trade, investment, energy transition, maritime economy, and the development of strategic industries.

Japan was recognized as a key partner in supporting Indonesia’s economic transformation agenda through high-quality investment, industrial downstreaming, and sustainable development cooperation.

The meeting also reached consensus on strengthening regional supply chain stability and advancing collaboration in future-oriented sectors such as clean energy, the digital economy, and strategic infrastructure development.

“We are also encouraging collaboration in future sectors such as clean energy, the digital economy, and strategic infrastructure, to support stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region,” Arrmanatha said.

Indonesia and Japan underlined the importance of cooperation in emerging technologies to boost competitiveness, foster innovation, and safeguard economic resilience amid rapid global disruptions.

The dialogue reaffirmed the determination of both nations to build a stronger, inclusive, and future-oriented economic partnership, aimed not only at advancing national interests but also at supporting stability and prosperity across the Indo-Pacific region. The first IJCD was held in Tokyo in 2021.

Diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Japan, established in 1958, have continued to grow significantly. The partnership advanced from a “Strategic Partnership for a Peaceful and Prosperous Future” in 2006 to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2023.

Economically, Japan remains one of Indonesia’s principal partners. In 2025, bilateral trade reached USD 32.07 billion, with realized investment amounting to USD 3.1 billion. Japan also continues to serve as a strategic development partner through decades of financial support and technical cooperation. ***
