RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Commemorating seven decades of diplomatic relations, Indonesia and Mongolia have taken a decisive step toward strengthening their partnership. On February 26, 2026, the two nations convened a Political Consultation Meeting in Jakarta, co-chaired by Indonesian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Arrmanatha C. Nasir and Mongolian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Amartuvshin Gombosuren.

The talks underscored a shared commitment to expand cooperation across strategic sectors while building a more structured framework for bilateral dialogue.

During the meeting, both officials exchanged views on the positive trajectory of bilateral relations and identified new areas of collaboration, including strategic economic ties, defense, agriculture, education, health, people-to-people exchanges, tourism, and science and technology.

“The scope for cooperation between Indonesia and Mongolia is vast. Strengthening business engagement will be essential, particularly through memorandums of understanding between chambers of commerce, which can serve as a bridge to expand trade, investment, and business partnerships,” Deputy Minister Arrmanatha said, as quoted on the ministry's official website.

Agriculture emerged as a promising sector, with Indonesia offering expertise in sustainable farming and capacity-building programs. In education, cooperation is being reinforced through Indonesian scholarship schemes such as the Indonesian Aid Scholarship (TIAS) and the Indonesian Arts and Culture Scholarship (BSBI), alongside training programs for Mongolian diplomats and initiatives under the Developing Countries Partnership framework.

The two sides also discussed global geopolitical developments and agreed to enhance collaboration in regional and multilateral forums. As a concrete step, they plan to establish a Policy Planning Dialogue between their foreign ministries to deepen strategic coordination and exchange perspectives on Indo-Pacific dynamics and broader global issues.

This consultation builds on the Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultation signed in Jakarta in May 2025, laying the foundation for a more structured and sustainable bilateral dialogue architecture.

Economic ties continue to show promise, with total trade reaching USD 56 million in 2025, with Indonesia’s exports accounting for USD 49.5 million and imports from Mongolia at USD 6.5 million. Cultural ties are also flourishing, exemplified by the presence of Southeast Asia’s only Mongolian Cultural Center in Tanjung Lesung, Banten.
