RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia has signaled its readiness to take a more active role in supporting a just and lasting peace for Palestine, including through participation in the newly established Board of Peace (BoP) and the International Stabilization Force (ISF).

Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono conveyed this commitment during a bilateral meeting with Palestinian Foreign Minister Varsen Aghabekian Shahin on the sidelines of the 61st UN Human Rights Council session in Geneva, Switzerland, Monday, February 23, 2026, according to a press release from the Indonesian Foreign Ministry.

Minister Sugiono emphasized Indonesia’s determination to ensure a transition process aligned with the interests of the Palestinian people and international law. He reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to sustaining the ceasefire and advancing a credible political process toward a Two-State Solution.

Regarding Indonesia’s planned contribution to the ISF, Minister Sugiono stressed that the country’s contingent will focus on protecting civilians and providing humanitarian support. He also welcomed the establishment of a Liaison Office by the Palestinian Authority to strengthen coordination with the Board of Peace.

Indonesia, he added, will continue to use international forums to rally support for Palestine, including at the upcoming D-8 Summit on April 15, 2026. A special session on Palestine will be held during the summit in Jakarta, reflecting Indonesia’s effort to reinforce solidarity and international backing.

The Palestinian Foreign Minister expressed appreciation for Indonesia’s consistent political support and humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people.

Indonesia officially joined the Board of Peace on January 22, 2026, during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where the initiative was launched by U.S. President Donald Trump.

At the BoP’s inaugural meeting in Washington, DC, on February 19, President Prabowo Subianto announced Indonesia’s readiness to deploy 8,000 troops to serve with the ISF in Gaza.

Indonesia has been appointed Deputy Commander of the ISF, with operational responsibilities, reflecting its role as one of the largest troop contributors to the peace mission.

As chair of the D-8 group for 2026–2027, Indonesia will host the summit in Jakarta under the theme “Navigating Global Shifts: Strengthening Equality, Solidarity, and Cooperation for Shared Prosperity”. The D-8, founded in Turkey in 1997, includes Indonesia, Malaysia, Iran, Egypt, Turkey, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nigeria, with Azerbaijan joining in December 2024. ***
