RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian support for the United Nations resolutions on Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity has been recognized by both Ukraine and Finland, highlighting the country’s careful diplomatic positioning amid the ongoing conflict in Eastern Europe.

Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Ukrainian Embassy in Jakarta, Yevhenia Shynkarenko, praised Indonesia’s consistent stance during the opening of the photo exhibition “Four Years of Resilience” on Monday, February 23, 2026. “We appreciate Indonesia’s position and hope it will continue,” Yevhenia Shynkarenko said, as quoted by Antara, when asked about President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to Russia and the absence of a visit to Ukraine.

She emphasized that each country has the sovereign right to choose its own partners and alliances. “Of course, we hope Indonesia will make the right choice, one that benefits its national interests,” she added.

At the same event, Finnish Ambassador to Indonesia, Pekka Kaihilahti, noted that global conflict, including the war in Ukraine, undermine international systems that are crucial for countries like Indonesia. He emphasized that while Indonesia is free to select partners, it must carefully weigh both the benefits and risks.

““You weigh your economic interests alongside your commitment to upholding the international system, especially the trust you place in your partners,” he said.

The remarks underscore Indonesia’s ongoing effort to balance economic, strategic, and diplomatic considerations while maintaining a principled stance on international norms. ***
