RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia has activated contingency plans and continues close monitoring of its citizens in Iran, ensuring evacuation options are ready if the situation deteriorates, the Foreign Affairs Ministry confirmed.
Acting Director for Indonesian Citizens Protection at the Ministry, Heni Hamidah, said the situation in Teheran and other cities remains stable, but Indonesia’s Alert Level 1 for Iran, in place since June 2025, continues.
“All contingency plans remain ready, including multiple evacuation routes if needed,” Heni remarked in a written statement on Monday, February 23, 2026, as quoted by Antara, adding that the Indonesian Embassy in Teheran maintains active communication with Indonesian citizens in the country.
So far, no Indonesians have reported direct threats or dangerous situations, but citizens are urged to stay vigilant and maintain contact with the embassy. “Indonesian citizens in Iran are advised to monitor developments closely, enhance personal safety measures, and stay in communication with the embassy,” Heni emphasized.
The US-Iran tension persists despite both countries’ commitment to resume indirect bilateral talks in March. On February 19, US President Donald Trump warned that Iran has 10 to 15 days to reach a nuclear agreement, threatening that “very bad things” could occur if talks fail.
Trump also mentioned that a “large fleet” is en route to Iran. According to the Financial Times, the United States has deployed 16 warships with 40,000 personnel and seven air squadrons of 70 fighter jets each across Middle Eastern bases.
These developments have prompted several countries, including Germany, Poland, Sweden, India, and South Korea, to advise their citizens to leave Iran immediately. Indonesia, however, continues to monitor the situation while keeping contingency measures in place to ensure the safety of its nationals. ***
