Indonesia's Prabowo Pledge to Send 8,000 Troops to Gaza at Board of Peace Meeting

RRI.CO.ID, Washington, D.C. – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has pledged to send 8,000, or even more, peacekeeping troops to Palestine's Gaza Strip. He said that at the Board of Peace inaugural meeting at the United States Institute of Peace in Washington, D.C., United States (U.S.), on Thursday, 19 February 2026.
In his brief speech, Prabowo praised the ceasefire between Hamas and Israeli forces in Gaza, while stating that the troops to be deployed would support the International Stabilization Force (ISF). The force was established based on a peace plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
"The achievement of the ceasefire is genuine. We commend this, and therefore we reaffirm our commitment to contribute a significant number of troops, up to 8,000 or more if necessary," Prabowo said.
"We will contribute the troops to participate in the International Stabilization Force to make this peace work," he continued.
Prabowo also emphasized that Indonesia had agreed to and fully supported Trump’s Gaza peace plan from the very first day. He expressed confidence that Trump’s leadership of the organization could bring about peace in Palestine.
ISF Commander, Major General Jasper Jeffers of the U.S., stated that five countries, including Indonesia, had agreed to send troops to the Gaza Strip. Of the five countries, he said Indonesia was willing to serve as the force's deputy commander.
"I'm incredibly pleased to announce today that the first five countries have committed troops to serve in the ISF: Indonesia, Morocco, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, and Albania," Jeffers said.
"I would also like to announce that I have offered, and Indonesia has accepted, the position of deputy commander for the ISF," he continued.
Prabowo’s presence at the meeting was part of his broader visit to the United States. During the trip, he also attended a business summit with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and signed a reciprocal trade agreement between Indonesia and the U.S.
