RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh has introduced a new initiative to strengthen the country’s culinary diplomacy in Cambodia, officially launching the Duta Rasa Nusantara certificate on Thursday, February 19, 2026
According to a press release received in Jakarta on Saturday, February 21, 2026, the certificate recognizes Indonesian restaurants in Cambodia that promote authentic Indonesian cuisine and preserve traditional recipes.
“Duta Rasa Nusantara is an acknowledgment of the vital role Indonesian restaurants play in introducing our cuisine to both local communities and foreign residents in Cambodia,” said Indonesian Ambassador to Cambodia Santo Darmosumarto, as quoted by Antara.
He added that the program also supports Cambodia’s efforts to expand its halal culinary industry, a sector gaining momentum as the country welcomes more Muslim tourists.
The first recipient of the certificate was Markus Dwinanta, owner of Resto Somatera. For nearly 17 years, his restaurant has showcased dishes from across Indonesia while also empowering Cambodian youth through culinary training. Four of his former employees have since opened their own food businesses.
The embassy emphasized that the certificate is not only a form of appreciation but also a motivation for Indonesian restaurants to continue promoting the richness of Nusantara cuisine.
Looking ahead, the embassy plans to curate a list of recommended Indonesian restaurants offering authentic flavors and recipes, serving as a guide for locals and visitors alike.
Currently, around 400 Indonesian restaurants operate across Cambodia’s provinces, reflecting the growing presence and influence of Indonesian culinary culture in the country. ***
