RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to actively support a ceasefire and the protection of civilians in Palestine, particularly in Gaza, during a series of bilateral meetings with international counterparts at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
Minister Sugiono made the statement on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, during separate meetings with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, held to discuss global geopolitical dynamics and their implications for Palestine.
“Our brothers and sisters in Palestine cannot wait any longer to experience a just and dignified peace,” Minister Sugiono said, according to a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs released Friday, February 20, as quoted by Antara.
He stressed the importance of coordinated steps consistent with international law to achieve lasting peace, while firmly rejecting any forced displacement of Palestinians as a violation of international law.
The ministers agreed that peace mechanisms for Palestine, including through the newly established Board of Peace (BoP), must align with the vision of a two-state solution and uphold international law.
Minister Sugiono emphasized that Indonesia’s participation in the BoP is aimed at ensuring the voices and rights of Palestinians are reflected in every stage of the peace process.
Indonesia’s involvement in both the BoP and the International Stabilization Force (ISF), he added, will be guided by humanitarian principles and international legal norms.
The Foreign Ministry noted that Indonesia’s early participation in the BoP is crucial to ensuring the mechanism remains consistent with the UN Charter and Security Council Resolution 2803 (2025), which underpins its establishment.
In addition to the bilateral meetings, Minister Sugiono also held discussions with UN Secretary-General António Guterres and Palestine’s Permanent Representative to the UN Riyad Mansour on Tuesday, February 17.
These engagements, the ministry said, reaffirm Indonesia’s consistency in supporting multilateral systems and its role as a trusted partner in addressing the situation in Gaza. ***
