Indonesia Congratulates Bangladesh Election, Seeks Stronger Ties Ahead

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia stated that the government congratulated Bangladesh on the successful conduct of its election and expressed hope to further strengthen bilateral partnership and enhance cooperation for the prosperity of both countries.
Based on a statement posted on the official @Kemlu_RI account monitored in Jakarta on Monday, 16 February 2026, Indonesia conveyed its congratulations to the government and people of Bangladesh on the successful implementation of the election.
“We wish him every success in leading Bangladesh towards a more democratic, peaceful, and prosperous future for the benefit of its people,” the ministry stated.
The ministry also expressed hope that Indonesia and Bangladesh could further strengthen their bilateral partnership and expand cooperation for the welfare of their peoples.
“Indonesia looks forward to further strengthening our close friendship and cooperation,” the ministry stated.
Previously reported, leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Tarique Rahman was officially sworn in on Tuesday (February 17, 2026) as the 11th prime minister of Bangladesh, marking the start of a new government following last week’s election. The vote was the first since the 2024 uprising that toppled the Liga Awami government after 15 years in power.
The oath-taking ceremony was led by President Mohammed Shahabuddin at the parliament building in Dhaka, alongside the swearing-in of 49 cabinet members and, earlier, 297 members of the 13th parliament, including representatives from the bloc led by Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh.
