RRI.CO.ID, Bangkok – Indonesia has reinforced its strategic role in regional youth diplomacy by actively participating in the Conference of Government Representatives under the Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Program (SSEAYP) 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand.

The forum brought together representatives from 11 participating countries to formulate the future direction of ASEAN–Japan youth collaboration. The conference concluded on Monday, February 16, 2026, at the Centara Grand Hotel in Bangkok, marking the culmination of a series of discussions and strategic planning sessions.

Senior Policy Analyst at the Youth and Sports Ministry, Yossi Ahmad Falah, represented Indonesia at the forum. He said Indonesia’s involvement reflected a long-term investment in youth development and regional diplomacy.

“Our presence at this forum is crucial and strategic. It is not merely about fulfilling an invitation. Still, about demonstrating Indonesia’s commitment to nurturing a globally minded, adaptive young generation capable of strengthening relations among nations,” Yossi said in a statement on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

He added that the government views SSEAYP as a valuable long-term investment in strengthening regional friendship and shaping the character of Indonesian youth. Indonesia’s participation, he said, is key to ensuring the sustainability of ASEAN–Japan youth collaboration as a driver of global solutions.

During the conference, delegates delivered final presentations from six discussion groups that explored themes derived from the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The groups produced innovative recommendations expected to contribute to global development.

Delegates also presented their Post Program Activity (PPA) plans, which are designed to be implemented collectively in their respective countries after the program concludes. The Indonesian delegation introduced the theme “Merakit: Meraih Asa untuk Bangkit” (Achieving Hope for Revival), highlighting social innovation and collaboration to generate tangible impact upon returning home.

Japanese Cabinet Office Administrator Masahiro Makino presided over the closing ceremony and presented certificates to participants. He expressed appreciation for the active engagement of youth representatives from ASEAN member states and Japan.

“We sincerely hope that through the SSEAYP program, future leaders will emerge who can bring positive change to the region. Equally important, this program is expected to strengthen the sense of brotherhood, friendship, and mutual understanding among ASEAN countries and Japan,” Makino said.

The event concluded with the 49th SSEAYP Farewell Party, where each delegation showcased cultural performances. The Indonesian contingent presented an a cappella medley of national songs, underscoring its cultural diplomacy efforts on the regional stage.

The forum also served as a platform to prepare for the 50th anniversary of SSEAYP in 2027, with participating countries beginning early coordination to ensure the milestone fosters the development of capable future leaders in the region. ***
