Indonesian Ambassador Submits Credentials in Japan

RRI.CO.ID, Tokyo – Indonesia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Japan, Nurmala Kartini Pandjaitan Sjahrir, officially began her tenure after submitting copies of her credentials to Japan’s Foreign Ministry in Tokyo on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.
Japan’s Chief of Protocol, Ambassador Miyashita Tadayuki, received the documents. Deputy Ambassador Maria Renata Hutagalung and Protocol and Consular Coordinator Dara Yusilawati accompanied Kartini.
Ambassador Kartini reaffirmed both countries' commitment to strengthening bilateral ties. “Both countries are committed to strengthening diplomatic relations and enhancing cooperation in various strategic fields, including defense and security, the economy, people-to-people exchanges, and improving the quality of human resources,” she said in an official statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
She described the handover of the credentials as an important step in reinforcing diplomatic relations and cooperation between the two nations. With a spirit of collaboration, she said, Indonesia and Japan can continue to advance as close and trusted strategic partners.
Both countries also agreed to intensify the implementation of the Indonesia–Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership as a foundation for sustainable and mutually beneficial cooperation across priority sectors.
The submission of the credential copies marks the formal commencement of Kartini’s duties as Indonesia’s ambassador to Japan. She also serves concurrently as Indonesia’s ambassador to the Federated States of Micronesia.
The original letter of credence is scheduled to be presented to Emperor Naruhito at a later date. ***
