RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - A suspected suicide bombing struck the Khadija Tul Kubra Mosque in Tarlai Kalan, southeast Islamabad, on Friday, February 6, 2026, killing at least 31 people and injuring 169 others. The attack targeted a Shiite mosque during Friday prayers.

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that no Indonesian nationals were among the victims. 

“Local authorities are currently investigating the incident and evacuating casualties from the site. The Indonesian Embassy in Islamabad has reported that no Indonesians were affected,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang told RRI.

Yvonne added that the Embassy will continue to monitor developments and coordinate closely with local authorities. She also reminded Indonesians in Pakistan to remain vigilant. 

According to official data, there are 1,897 Indonesian nationals in Pakistan, 1,279 under the jurisdiction of the Embassy in Islamabad and 618 under the Consulate General in Karachi. Most are students or women married to local residents.

Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said mosque security guards attempted to stop the suspect, who then opened fire before detonating explosives among worshippers. Asif suggested the attacker had traveled repeatedly to Afghanistan, according to Al Jazeera.

On Friday evening, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL/ISIS) claimed responsibility for the attack via its Telegram channel. The group also released an image purportedly showing the assailant holding a weapon, with his face covered and eyes blurred, Reuters reported. (Annaila Azzahra/Sri Wahyuni)
