RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia's BINUS University has deepened its partnership with the Korean Institute of Information Technology (KIIT) through the International Conference ICOBAR-SMART 2026, a forum highlighting the role of technology in shaping sustainable governance.
“For nearly 45 years, BINUS University has been committed to delivering education and research that are impactful and relevant to global challenges, supporting Indonesia’s progress,” BINUS Vice Rector of Research and Technology Transfer, Juneman Abraham, said in a statement on Friday, February 6, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Held on February 5–6, ICOBAR-SMART 2026 carried the theme “Convergence 2026: Smart Governance, Intelligent Business, and Revolutionary Mobility for a Sustainable Global Ecosystem.”
The theme reflects the urgency of ensuring that rapid technological advances, from artificial intelligence to smart mobility systems, are aligned with adaptive governance and innovative business models that remain compliant, sustainable, and future-oriented.
Juneman emphasized that the conference’s cross-disciplinary approach places innovation at the center of discussions, translating technological breakthroughs into public policy and practical business applications with long-term impact.
He underscored that advanced technologies such as AI and smart city systems must benefit society broadly, not just a select few.
“In line with our mission to nurture and empower communities, we are committed to ensuring that innovation, including digital transformation, truly belongs to the public. It should not remain confined to technological elites but instead help liberate people from everyday limitations and narrow social gaps,” he said.
Chair of the Organizing Committee, Joice Yulinda Luke, noted that ICOBAR-SMART 2026 featured a wide range of interdisciplinary discussions, covering artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, smart mobility, supply chain digitalization, governance and public policy, future skills development, and sustainability.
“We are proud to welcome participants from diverse countries and fields of expertise. This conference is designed as a meeting ground for exchanging ideas, fostering shared learning, and opening opportunities for collaboration beyond the forum itself,” she added.
KIIT President Insik Choi highlighted that the collaboration strengthens ICOBAR-SMART 2026 as a platform for academic exchange built on quality research and international networks.
Based in South Korea, KIIT has consistently advanced information technology research by organizing scientific conferences and publishing academic work, involving around 7,500 researchers from more than 200 universities worldwide.
“KIIT welcomes this collaboration with BINUS University as part of our shared commitment to developing ideas and research partnerships that respond to industry needs, policy priorities, and sustainable development,” Choi said. ***
