Indonesia Gains More Opportunities in Russian Scholarship Program

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Russia has increased its government scholarship quota for Indonesian students to 300 seats in 2026, as announced by Rusia's Ambassador to Indonesia Sergei Tolchenov during the MGIMO (Moskovskiy Gosudarstvennyy Institut Mezhdunarodnykh Otnosheniy), Moscow State Institute of International Relations, Day event in Jakarta on Monday, February 2, highlighting expanded educational opportunities.

“Last year, Indonesia received a quota of 250 Russian government scholarships. Since the utilization was optimal, we have increased the quota to 300 this year, and we hope it will rise further,” Ambassador Sergei Tolchenov said, as quoted by Antara.

He explained that Russia provides hundreds of scholarships annually for Indonesian students to pursue education at various levels. This year, the scholarships include approximately 200 undergraduate, 80 master’s, and 20 doctoral positions.

He added that interest among applicants has been strong, with thousands of prospective Indonesian students already registered.

According to him, the scholarship cooperation between the two countries has shown a positive trend in recent years, prompting the Russian government to increase the quota for Indonesia.

“Cooperation in the field of education is one of the most important aspects of our relationship with Indonesia,” he said. 

The MGIMO Day event at the Russian House (Russian Center for Science and Culture) in Jakarta was attended by hundreds of students, university students, and academics. MGIMO University, based in Moscow, operates under the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. ***
