RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Ninety-one Indonesian nationals arrived safely at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten, at 5:30 a.m. local time, on Friday, January 30, 2026, after being repatriated from the conflict-prone Myawaddy region in Myanmar.
The mission, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was the result of months of complex negotiations aimed at dismantling human trafficking chains and protecting citizens. The successful extraction was achieved through a joint-embassy effort in Yangon and Bangkok, providing a vital lifeline for those who had been caught in illicit international operations.
Quoting the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs official website, the return marks the fourth wave of evacuations from the Myawaddy region, following the third wave that took place on January 21–22, 2026. The success of this repatriation is the result of a long and intensive process carried out by the Indonesian Embassy in Yangon and the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Ministry is coordinating with domestic agencies, including the National Police's Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) and the Ministry of Social Affairs, to ensure proper law enforcement and prevention measures. Several citizens have expressed their willingness to cooperate with law enforcement to report the individuals who allegedly recruited them into online scam syndicates.
The government continues to remind citizens to follow official procedures when seeking employment overseas and to respect the laws of their host countries. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs specifically calls on Indonesian nationals to adhere to legal requirements when pursuing work abroad and to comply with local regulations wherever they reside. ***
