RRI.CO.ID, Makassar - Indonesia is preparing "Road to Nobel Prize", a program initiated by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, to help young researchers broaden their ambitions and gain international recognition.

Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Brian Yuliarto, said the initiative seeks to provide opportunities for Indonesian scholars to learn directly from world-class scientists, including Nobel laureates.

“We are now developing the Road to Nobel Prize program to encourage our young researchers to dream big and pursue excellence in their work,” Minister Brian said after attending a public lecture in Makassar, South Sulawesi, on Thursday, January 29, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

The public lecture featured Prof. Morten P. Meldal, recipient of the 2022 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Minister Brian emphasized that improving the quality of Indonesian researchers requires collaboration with international partners and joint research with leading scientists worldwide.

Seizing the momentum, he expressed to Prof. Meldal his hope that Indonesia could send master’s and doctoral students to study in the professor’s laboratory in the future.

The Minister argued, young Indonesian researchers need exposure to the daily practices, discipline, and mindset of globally prominent scientists.

“By observing firsthand how Nobel-winning scientists conduct their research, live their routines, and maintain perseverance, our young researchers can gain invaluable insights,” he explained.

He added that such experiences would also shape the way Indonesian scholars think and approach research at the global level. “I have already asked whether we could send Indonesian students to his lab, supported by scholarships from us,” Brian noted.

The ministry plans to extend similar requests to other leading researchers worldwide, ensuring that Indonesia’s next generation of scientists can directly engage with top global experts. “This will give our young researchers real, hands-on experience with the world’s best,” Minister Brian concluded. ***
