RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia and Australia have agreed to enhance security cooperation through the Ministerial Council Meeting on Law and Security, a forum that addresses priority security issues affecting regional stability.

Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs, Djamari Chaniago, emphasized that security cooperation is strategic for both nations and will contribute significantly to maintaining regional stability.

Discussions at the forum covered domestic and regional security, counterterrorism efforts, maritime security, illegal migration, cybersecurity, and the protection of critical infrastructure.

The two countries also addressed transnational crime, including the illicit drug trade. “Strengthening cooperation must continue as a shared priority to safeguard regional stability,” Djamari said in Jakarta on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

He added that both nations are committed to preventing and combating illegal shipping and fishing, as well as tackling human trafficking, drug smuggling, and cyber threats.

Australia’s Minister for Home Affairs, Tony Burke, highlighted the growing scale of global threats, stressing the need for Indonesia and Australia to deepen their security collaboration.

“What we have achieved so far is good, but it is not enough,” Burke stated, underscoring that both countries must take more concrete steps to ensure the safety of their people. (Diffa Sephiawardhani/Sri Wahyuni)
