RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The United States has reaffirmed the importance of strengthening its strategic cooperation with Indonesia in the field of cybersecurity policy, aiming to tackle increasingly complex online fraud and cybercrime across the Indo-Pacific region.
U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Regional Security Assistance and Public Diplomacy, Robert Koepcke, emphasized this commitment during the U.S.-Indonesia Cyber Policy Dialog held in Jakarta on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. He noted that the collaboration reflects a shared determination to enhance regional cybersecurity and stability.
Chargé d’Affaires ad interim at the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta, Peter Haymond, highlighted the resilience of the bilateral cyber partnership built over recent years amid rising threats such as online scams, ransomware, and cross-border cyberattacks.
“Cyber threats harm both societies and economies. Together, we can build stronger defenses to protect our citizens and safeguard our economic prosperity,” Haymond said during the discussion, as quoted by Antara.
At the same event, the United States announced an additional cybersecurity assistance package for Indonesia, bringing total support to USD 10 million (approximately IDR 167.3 billion) as part of efforts to deepen bilateral cooperation.
The program is an implementation of the two countries’ Cybersecurity Memorandum of Understanding and supports the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, including the previously agreed Cybersecurity Action Plan.
Through this initiative, U.S. cybersecurity experts will train Indonesian government officials and provide tools to counter cyberattacks and malicious activities originating from foreign actors.
Washington also stressed that protecting Indonesia’s critical infrastructure will help mitigate risks to global trade supply chains, safeguard the interests of citizens and businesses in both nations, and reinforce stability across the Indo-Pacific. ***
