RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono has officially reaffirmed the nation's unwavering support for Palestinian independence based on the Two-State Solution framework during a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
This consistent position, aimed at resolving the long-standing conflict with Israel, was presented as Indonesia's fundamental diplomatic guideline on the global stage. By reinforcing this commitment, Minister Sugiono signaled that Indonesia will not waver in its foreign policy priorities regarding Middle Eastern peace and sovereignty.
"Of course, our compass direction remains the 'two-state solution.' Indonesia continues to desire the independence and sovereignty of Palestine," Sugiono stated, as quoted by Antara, further noting that achieving this long-term goal would require specific operational maneuvers on the global stage.
"Therefore, there must be tactical steps that we need to take," Sugiono added, without elaborating further or provide specific details regarding what these tactical measures would entail.
These remarks were made in response to a viral video of President Prabowo Subianto on social media, in which he suggested that peace in Palestine is possible if all parties guarantee Israel's security. That footage was originally recorded while President Prabowo participated in the UN General Assembly in New York in September 2025.
Prior to his presidency, while serving as the Minister of Defense, Prabowo Subianto initiated a scholarship program for Palestinian students that has been active since 2023. This educational initiative is hosted at the University of Defense with the goal of strengthening Indonesia-Palestine relations through academic empowerment.
Palestinian students in the program are currently pursuing various specialized fields, including military medicine, military pharmacy, and civil engineering. Other students are focused on electrical power engineering, mechanical engineering, and information security engineering to help rebuild their nation.
This scholarship program stands as a concrete manifestation of Indonesia's commitment to supporting Palestine beyond political and humanitarian aid. By focusing on human resource development, Indonesia aims to provide the Palestinian people with the professional expertise necessary for future state-building. ***
