RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia plays a significant role in the Board of Peace (BoP), Foreign Minister Sugiono said, noting that the body was officially activated on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2026 in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland.

Member countries of the Board of Peace signed a joint commitment during the forum. Indonesia joined the initiative specifically to support peace efforts in Gaza, Palestine.

President Prabowo Subianto personally signed Indonesia’s participation in the Board of Peace. “Indonesia is among the countries that have been involved in this process from the very beginning,” Sugiono said in a written statement issued on Saturday, January 24, 2026.

Minister Sugiono said the Board of Peace forms part of the broader peace process for Gaza. He added that the establishment of the board demonstrates a tangible commitment to ensuring that peace efforts proceed in line with the principles upheld by the BoP.

He emphasized that Indonesia has consistently voiced its support for peace in Gaza since the early stages of the conflict. Indonesia’s participation in the Board of Peace, he said, represents a concrete step toward realizing that long-standing commitment.

According to Sugiono, President Prabowo’s decision was made with consideration of global input, reflecting international encouragement for Indonesia to take an active role in promoting peace.

“We care about international peace and stability. Indonesia’s position remains unchanged,” he said.

The Board of Peace is a peace body established by United States President Donald Trump and is specifically mandated to address issues related to the Palestinian territories.

At least 20 countries have pledged their commitment to peace through the Board of Peace, with Indonesia joining international efforts to help resolve the Gaza conflict. (Gusti Panji/Lasti Martina)
