RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia has been selected as one of the destinations for the FIFA World Cup 2026 Trophy Tour, which took place at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Jakarta, on Thursday, 22 January 2026. Minister of Youth and Sports, Erick Thohir, attended the event and welcomed FIFA’s decision to bring the original World Cup trophy to Indonesia as a positive step for national football development.

“Indonesia has now been chosen as one of the countries visited by the original World Cup trophy. This is certainly a very positive moment and we welcome it as part of our efforts to build national football and pursue future goals,” Erick Thohir said, as quoted from the official website of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

The minister stated that FIFA’s engagement with Indonesia has been demonstrated through several initiatives, including Indonesia hosting the FIFA U-17 World Cup, the establishment of a FIFA office in Jakarta, plans to hold the FIFA Series in March, and the FIFA World Cup 2026 Trophy Tour.

In the same statement, Minister Erick underscored that youth and sports are currently positioned as national development priorities. He said youth play a key role in the nation’s progress.

“Youth must be at the forefront. We will continue to promote programs focused on character building, leadership, and mental health. Youth and sports organizations should remain united,” he said.

Minister Erick also noted that sporting events contribute not only to athletic achievement but also to public health indicators. He added that the government is open to supporting major sporting events in Jakarta and other regions, with private sector involvement in developing the sports industry.
