RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Australian Embassy in Indonesia, together with the Indonesian Embassy in Australia, launched the 2026 Indonesian Language Learning Ambassadors (ILLA) program on Tuesday, 20 January 2026.

Under the program, 67 Indonesian language ambassadors will be placed in 53 schools and universities across Australia. ILLA ambassadors will share their expertise in Indonesian language, culture, and customs while forming lasting friendships in Australia.

During the Australia–Indonesia Annual Leaders’ Meeting in Jakarta last year, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and President Prabowo Subianto reaffirmed their joint commitment to the ILLA program and announced that the number of ambassadors would be doubled – an achievement reached in 2025.

“The ILLA program plays an important role building connections between Indonesian scholars and Australian students, as well as fostering greater understanding of Indonesia’s language and culture. These personal connections form the foundation of the enduring partnership between Australia and Indonesia,” Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Rod Brazier stated.

The ILLA program reflects strong engagement from both Indonesian scholars and Australian education providers. Through classroom activities and community interaction, the program contributes to strengthening cultural and educational links between Indonesia and Australia.
