KBRN, Yogyakarta: The governments of Indonesia and Russia are accelerating the finalization of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in preparation for the upcoming INNOPROM 2026 global industrial exhibition, scheduled for July next year in Russia.
Indonesian Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita reported on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, that his working visit to Moscow on December 8 focused on expediting the signing of these key agreements.
"The signing and finalization of these MoUs form an important foundation for expanding technological collaboration, research, and strengthening the competitiveness of our national industry," said Minister Agus, as quoted by Antara.
The MoU on Shipbuilding is expected to yield significant contributions to the development of the shipyard industry in both Indonesia and Russia.
Meanwhile there is also a MoU on Cooperation in the Field of Scientific Research on the Safe Use of Chrysotile Asbestos. This cooperation has already begun, with two Indonesian laboratory personnel having completed training supported by the Russian government in September 2024.
The Minister emphasized that this collaboration will significantly benefit the manufacturing sector, industrial human resource development, and broaden the scope for cooperation between the two nations.
The bilateral meeting also served to review the progress from the Indonesia-Russia Joint Commission Session, particularly within the Working Group on Trade, Investment, and Industry. The Minister expressed hope to see concrete actions implemented soon across issues including industry, halal supply chains, logistics, standardization and certification, agriculture, and finance.
Minister Agus expressed Indonesia’s full support for collaborations forged with Russia within various international forums, specifically mentioning the BRICS Centre for Industrial Competences (BCIC).
According to the Minister, the BCIC holds potential for advancing several key areas, including industrial digitalization and Artificial Intelligence (AI), new mobility technologies and unmanned transport systems, human resource development and small and medium sized industry (IKM) development, and finally, bio-industry and digital transformation.
This program harmonization is projected to prepare Indonesia to showcase its best industrial potential at INNOPROM 2026, strengthening market access and accelerating industrial transformation toward a more modern, competitive, and sustainable direction.
“With the continuously increasing spirit of collaboration, we are confident that industrial relations with Russia will grow stronger and contribute positively to inclusive and sustainable economic growth for both countries," the Minister expressed optimism.
The visit builds upon the significant strengthening of 75 years of diplomatic ties, which gained new momentum following the meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and President Vladimir Putin in June 2025. Minister Agus also welcomed the planned visit of President Putin to Jakarta to further solidify the collaboration. ***
