KBRN, Jakarta: Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs officially opened the “Archives Exhibition on the Occasion of 75 Years of Diplomatic Relations Indonesia–Iran,” showcasing historic documents and photographs that illustrate more than seven decades of diplomatic engagement between the two nations.

In her remarks in Jakarta, Wednesday evening, Senior Advisor to the Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy, Zelda Wulan Kartika, stated that the exhibition serves as an important opportunity to reflect on the long-standing diplomatic journey shared by Indonesia and Iran. She noted that the collection highlights the strength and continuity of bilateral relations, which have continued to grow over time.

“This exhibition marks an important milestone to reflect on and celebrate the remarkable journey of official diplomacy throughout seven and a half decades, from the establishment of our embassies to many defining moments of bilateral cooperation. The archives reveal a rich narrative of collaboration that has grown steadily stronger over time,” Zelda said.

She further explained that Indonesia–Iran relations have expanded across various strategic sectors, including politics, economy, health, education, and technology, reflecting the comprehensive nature of the partnership. Zelda also emphasized that the exhibition goes beyond presenting historical records: it is a tangible example of public diplomacy aimed at strengthening mutual understanding, friendship, and people-to-people cooperation between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Iranian Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, described the archival exhibition as a tribute to the long-standing relationship built upon shared values and mutual respect. He said the displayed documents such as letters, agreements, photographs, and other archival materials, highlight meaningful historical and cultural interactions between Indonesia and Iran.

“I’m so happy today because we are here to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the diplomatic relation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Indonesia. Today we gathered here, we came together to celebrate this anniversary. And this exhibition shows that over the last 75 years, colleagues, leaders, and many people from Iran and Indonesia have done their best to build strong cooperation between the two countries,” he said.

He added that the documents on display also reflect the close cooperation between Indonesia and Iran in various international forums, including the Non-Aligned Movement.

“All of these show that Iran and Indonesia have always had very close relations in international organizations. They began working actively together in the Non-Aligned Movement, which has been a very important movement in recent and current conflicts. So most of these documents are highly significant,” Boroujerdi stated.

On high-level engagement, Boroujerdi revealed that Iran has extended an invitation to President Prabowo Subianto for a state visit. He expressed hope that the visit could take place soon, following the last high-level meeting when Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi visited Indonesia in 2022.

The archival exhibition marking 75 years of Indonesia–Iran diplomatic relations is open to the public from 27 November to 5 December 2025 at Gedung Trisno Soemardjo, Taman Ismail Marzuki, Jakarta.
