Indonesia Targets Global Halal Hub Status 2029

KBRN, Jakarta: Head of Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH), Ahmad Haikal Hasan, said the Indonesian government reaffirmed its ambition to become a global halal hub by 2029. He made the statement during a Working Meeting between Commission VIII and the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH) in Jakarta, Monday (11/17/2025).
The discussion highlighted Jakarta’s potential role as the future capital of the global halal ecosystem.
Ahmad Haikal Hasan stated that Indonesia has prepared a long-term strategic roadmap that aligns with the national vision of Indonesia Emas 2045.
Haikal emphasized that the plan aims to strengthen Indonesia’s position in the global halal sector. “The essence is the realization of a Global Halal Center by 2029. We have prepared the steps to make Indonesia the World’s Halal Center. Jakarta will become the capital of the halal world,” Haikal conveyed.
He also explained that BPJPH has expanded cooperation with ministries and institutions nationwide. The collaboration involves nine ministries and three government agencies, including the police.
The network also includes the Indonesian Council of Ulama (MUI), regional governments, state-owned enterprises, private companies, and e-commerce platforms.
“We have taken strategic steps through cooperation with nine ministries. We also coordinate with several institutions, including the police and MUI. Regional governments, state-owned enterprises, private sectors, and e-commerce platforms are also involved,” he said.
Several achievements now support Indonesia’s goal of becoming a global halal hub. Indonesia’s national halal laboratory can now detect 46 DNA markers with higher precision. BPJPH is preparing four million halal supervisors nationwide. Halal certification for MSMEs has also surpassed 1.1 million business actors.
