Indonesia-UK's Royal Foundation Forge Alliance to Combat Environmental Crime

KBRN, Jakarta: In a significant step toward global environmental cooperation, the Indonesian Ministry of Environment (KLH) has entered into a strategic partnership with The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales.

The collaboration aims to strengthen biodiversity conservation, tackle transnational environmental crime, and promote sustainable development.

The agreement was formalized through a Letter of Intent (LoI) signed by Indonesian Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq and Amanda Berry CBE, Chief Executive Officer of The Royal Foundation, during a bilateral meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.

“The Royal Foundation’s support enhances our capacity to protect Indonesia’s extraordinary biodiversity and respond more effectively to environmental threats. Together, we can build stronger governance systems and coordinated responses,” Minister Hanif stated, as qouted by antaranews.com.

The LoI underscores a shared commitment to advancing public awareness, fostering public-private partnerships, and strengthening institutional capacity for long-term ecosystem protection.

Both parties will explore initiatives to engage businesses and financial institutions, bolster law enforcement cooperation, and enhance regional and international coordination in biodiversity protection and environmental crime prevention.

Minister Hanif emphasized that the agreement represents more than a formal document; it reflects a joint pledge to safeguard life on Earth.

Prior to the signing, Minister Hanif and Hashim S. Djojohadikusumo, representing President Prabowo Subianto, held a private audience with His Royal Highness Prince William. During the meeting, they conveyed the President’s greetings and appreciation for the British monarchy’s longstanding dedication to environmental and humanitarian causes.

“We deeply value Prince William’s vision and commitment. Together, we aspire to build a safer, fairer, and more sustainable world, for both humanity and nature,” Minister Hanif said. ***
