KBRN, Jakarta: Indonesia has expressed strong support for the first-phase ceasefire agreement reached between Israel and Hamas. Through Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono, the Indonesian government described the development as a meaningful step toward peace.
“This is a positive step forward, and we welcome it wholeheartedly. Hopefully, it will continue into the next phases,” said Minister Sugiono after a bilateral meeting with Dutch Foreign Affairs Minister David van Weel on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at the Pancasila Building, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jakarta.
Minister Sugiono shared that, based on the latest updates received, negotiations surrounding the ceasefire are still ongoing. “I’ve been informed that talks are continuing, and several fundamental agreements have already been reached,” he added.
He emphasized that the finer details of the agreement are still under discussion and negotiation.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump announced via his Truth Social platform that Israel and Hamas had agreed to the first stage of a ceasefire plan. The agreement also includes a prisoner exchange between the two sides.
Meanwhile, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Majed al-Ansari, stated on X that further details regarding the first phase of the agreement would be released soon.
He noted that the ceasefire mechanism in Gaza is expected to lead to an end to the conflict, the release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian detainees, and the delivery of humanitarian aid. (Naura Sofia/Sri Wahyuni)
