KBRN, Jakarta: A young diplomat named Arya Daru Pangayunan was found dead in a gruesome condition in his boarding room in Central Jakarta.

“It is true, one of the staff of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Arya Daru Pangayunan, passed away at his residence in Gondangdia,” said Foreign Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Rolliansyah Soemirat on Tuesday, July 8, 2025.

Arya’s body was found in his boarding room at Jalan Gondangdia Kecil 22, Menteng, Central Jakarta on Tuesday, July 8, 2025. He was found with his entire head wrapped in duct tape.

Initially, the victim’s wife asked the boarding house owner to check the room because she had been unable to contact the deceased since Monday night, July 7, 2025. Upon checking, the boarding house caretaker found the 39-year-old man had already passed away.

Originally from Sleman, Yogyakarta Province, Arya leaves behind a wife and two children. He was an alumnus of the Social and Political Sciences Faculty (FISIP), Gadjah Mada University (UGM), class of 2005.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry Indonesian Citizens Protection Director, Judha Nugraha, in his brief message, said that the late Arya was scheduled to serve as an Indonesian diplomat at the Indonesian Embassy in Helsinki at the end of July 2025. Arya was known to be a Junior Expert Functional Diplomat at the Indonesian Citizens Protection Directorate.

Meanwhile, regarding Arya’s death, the ministry has fully handed over the case to the authorities.

“The ministry has now handed over the case to the authorities and we will support the process being carried out by the police. We do not wish to speculate; we will wait for the results of the police investigation,” said Judha.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry also expressed condolences for the passing of the diplomat. ***
